Since the city was founded in 1796, Cleveland has asked much of its residents — but perhaps nothing more demanding than the patience and loyalty required to cheer on the wide range of athletes and sports teams that have called Northeast Ohio home. For more than 150 years, followers of Cleveland sports have seen it all: from the worst team to ever play professional baseball to perhaps the greatest player ever to walk on a basketball court. Jonathan Knight, author of 10 books on the subject, will take us through a whirlwind tour and show us why — even with all the frustration and heartbreak of the past two centuries — Cleveland’s teams remain among the most beloved in the sports world.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the film Major League, Jonathan will go juuuust a bit inside the classic baseball comedy with this presentation at the Willoughby Public Library. Admission is FREE - copies of the book (and his others) will be available for purchase and signing.
